Ryan’s Story

My Grandmother from my Dad’s side moved from St Helena the British colony island where Napoleon was exiled too. My grandad from my mum’s side moved from Bangladesh. They both came in search of a better life and employment.

The rest of my family were born on the mainland UK and I was born in Aberdeen, Scotland. Growing up mixed race in the UK can be hard and it can be easy to isolated from both cultures that make up me and feel different. However, As I have gotten older I have learnt to embrace and not be ashamed of this.

I currently live in London and love how multicultural it is, but I do hope to live in Scotland again as this is my home is for me.
