Rim’s Story

My father moved to London in the 70s with his friends after serving in the army in Syria. 20 years later I was born and we’d travel to Syria every summer to reconnect with family and culture. This is what made me want to study architecture and it is the career that I am now pursuing. I thought I would move to Syria and practice architecture there as an adult, as it was the country I called home however once destruction started in 2011, I knew that my roots were no longer there. I began to establish them here in London and sought similarities between these two beloved cities. I soon discovered the beauty in the details of London. The Jasmine bushes, some cobbled footpaths, the golden sun and starling birds. And a summers night warm air.
