Roxi’s Story

My Father came to Uk in 1947. In the hold of a liner and arrived in Liverpool January. GOt caught after a 3week voyage with a bucket and sandwiches passed down to him and fellow travellers by the crew. He got let off. His father worked for the civil service so the border control officer recognised his name. just his coat and box camera. He sold his coat for five pounds and found temporary digs. Lived in Manchester worked as a navvy and in a steel factory where steel lodged in his eye so lost his job. Bunch of Irish builders took him on as an accountant and he had a regular job til he started his studies at LSe.
