Paula’s Story

I am a second generation immigrant from Ireland. Born in London and brought up to be vehemently anti racist by my mothe, yet my father from whom was first generation immigrant remained xenophobic until dementia took his mind. Without the love and care of new immigrants he would be facing a lack of care. I thank them from the bottom of my heart for the understanding they give him without prejudice. My daughter who has bright ginger hair is regularly criticised for having the wrong colour hair, the colour of the Irish, her roots shining out literally from her roots. As the Brexit insanity makes my country unrecognisable I want to reach out to stop the hideous rise in hate that belongs nowhere in a country that would not be able to care for its old, sick, young, vulnerable without the gift of labour from all of our amazing immigrants. For the reality is we are all just immigrants from somewhere.
