Moriam’s Story

I am a 2nd generation Nigerian, also British. I have both passports. My parents moved to London in the 1970s and I was born in Guy’s Hospital, not far from here. I was not automatically given citizenship; my parents had to fight a lengthy battle to gain citizenship for my entire family. I don’t recall the battle at the time, but my dad often recounts the stress and turmoil he felt trying to ensure we could stay in the UK.

My parents still live in London but I now live and work in Doha. But London will always be my home.
