My family moved to the UK from South Africa when I was 3 years old. I am Muslim. My skin shows a colour that is mixed from all the people that make up me. It’s a colour that causes confusion. When you look at me, you can’t pinpoint where I’m from and it frustrates you. Sometimes I can’t pinpoint it either but it doesn’t frustrate me, it fills me with wonder. How wonderful it is to be so elusive, to be from many places and still feel like I belong to one. London is my home, but South Africa, Indonesia, Ireland, India and Malaysia are my history.
