I’m a first generation immmigrant from Zimbabwe. After coming to this country on an extended holiday when I was 5, I have now built my identity around British culture. From speaking no English and being the odd one out in my reception class to now having to think hard before saying anything out loud in my mother tongue Shona. However, if anyone ever asks me where I’m from I will proclaim Africa, from this generation to the next.
