Bridget’s Story

My family name is Hugenout which means we came from France in one of the first waves of mass immigration and filtered out of the east end brick lane area eventually being moved from slums in Walthamstow to deep Hertfordshire in the 1930s. My grandma came from a family of 13 in a small council house. Our appearance is *dark* as my Aunties used to say reflecting the mixed heritage that comes from London ancestors even now my daughter and I get asked what country we are from in this global city .
