Nicola’s Story

Me and my family moved to the UK in 2007, I was only 11 years old and didn’t speak a word of English. The first two years were very difficult I got bullied a lot being the only Polish girl in my school. We lived in a one bedroom flat and I had to share a room with my younger brother while my parents slept on the sofa. Looking back it was hard but I remember it fondly now because I think it shaped the person I am today. 14 years later I have a great career in a creative industry which I love and have even purchased my first property with my fiancé. Moving to the U.K. was the best decision my parents could have made for me and I will always be grateful to them for flipping their lives upside down for me and my brother. I could never have the life I have had we stayed in Poland.
