Michelle’s Story

My birth parents met in the Empire DanceHall in London in the 1960s - what a name as both were immigrants from Ireland and India - both once part of the British Empire. My mother came from a lime of Irish farm labourers and my father the first of his generation to come here from India.

I ended up adopted in Ireland - I’ve visited my fathers home place in India and felt I knew the physicality of the place intimately - like I had been there many times before- it makes me think about genetic visual inheritance and memories and experiences we may not know we carry.
