Maryam’s Story

My father moved from Nigeria to Glasgow for his PHD in the 70s, 20 years later my mother followed suit. I was born and raised in Scotland. My family is Nupe. To give us the best chance at succeeding they hid their language from us. In seeking the best for their children they did them the biggest disservice, in order to gain success we had to lose our heritage. Leaving us lost in a country we don’t belong in.
