Eden’s Story

My grandmother arrived on a ship called the Venezuela on Victoria docks in 1961. She left with her uncle after leaving the rest of her family in Dominica. She first worked in the tea rooms with other newly arrived immigrants from the West Indies. She then moved on to working at Wall’s meat factory as a meat packer until her boss noticed how good she was with figures; she was then promoted to working in the accountancy offices at her place of work. My grandma is now 78 yrs old with 6 children, 13 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
