Anil’s Story

My story is about having multiple homes and identities. My parents migrated from India, first to London, where I was conceived, then to Germany, where I was born. We became Germans.
In the early 2000s I migrated to England, with my Indian wife and our two boys. My wife is British now. My boys are still Germans, but their cultural Identity is predominantly British. I live in Germany and in England because I missed Germany. We still have strong ties to India.
My family reflects the complexity of immigration and identity, that is not unidirectional. It can be complex and daunting and confusing to live such a life. Now one part of my self is “immigrated to the UK”, but there is more ...
